This is what the work looks like.
I study Sustainable Landscape Design at Saddleback College. In our classes, we learn design, hardscaping, sustainability practices, and more. I have created many concept gardens for my classes, and I’m sharing them with you here.
Saddleback College Butterfly Garden
This project was to design a concept for a butterfly garden to be installed on camups at Saddleback College. My design won runner-up. There is a new Monarch Migration Mural created by Ink Dwell, painted on a building by the quad, opposite the garden.
My concept includes a painted California Poppy and Monarch butterfly on the ground as you walk the path to the center of the garden. There are benches around the poppy by the entrance, and the Monarch’s body is a bench as well. The antennae of the butterfly have phone holders so visitors can take selfies of themselves in the beautiful garden. I also included an interpretive sign, so visitors can learn about Monarch butterflies and how they can help them survive. The plants selected are from the Xerces Society’s Southern California Habitat Kit.
